OVERVIEW

MovieStar is a reality show in search of Hollywood’s next movie star, incorporating a multimedia format and fascinating insight into the craft of movie making as never seen before! The

competition and expose is conducted over 8 episodes, where actors are critiqued by the

“MovieStar Panel” (acting coach, director & actor) and behind-the-scenes expertise in direction, makeup, wardrobe, cinematography, and other exciting aspects of filmmaking are revealed to audiences for the first time!   

 

Episode #1 (Pilot): Contestants are allotted 60 seconds by the “MovieStar Timeclock” to perform

their favorite Hollywood movie monologue. In addition, the “MovieStar Hostess” conducts pre and

post-audition interviews on the “MovieStar Casting Couch.” The Panel critiques the performances

and awards 40 “Golden Scripts” to contestants worthy of receiving a callback. 

 

Episode #2 (Drama): 40 contestants are randomly paired to perform dramatic Hollywood film

scenes.  In this episode, MovieStar reveals how wardrobe, makeup, and lighting bring characters

to life on the big screen. The Panel critiques performances and eliminates 15 contestants.

 

Episode #3 (Action): 25 contestants return to perform scenes from Hollywood action movies. In

this episode, MovieStar reveals the “smoke and mirrors” of special effects and other aspects of the action genre, including adventures, thrillers, and traditional western themes. The Panel critiques performances and eliminates 9 contestants.

Episode #4 (Comedy): 16 contestants return to perform scenes from Hollywood comedies. In this episode, MovieStar focuses on different comedy genres, including slapstick, prop humor, and satire.  The Panel critiques performances and the MovieStar audience votes for their favorite contestants after the show.      

Episode #5 (Horror): Episode commences in dramatic fashion with the Hostess requesting, “the envelope, please…” Hostess announces the 12 Finalists and gives brief Casting Couch exit interviews to the 4 departing contestants. In this episode, contestants perform scary scenes from horror films. MovieStar also reveals the history of Hollywood horror, focusing on makeup, special effects, lighting, and set design. Panel critiques performances and the MovieStar audience votes for their favorite contestants after the show. 

Episode #6 (Romance): Episode commences in dramatic fashion with the Hostess requesting, “the

envelope, please…” Hostess announces 8 actors who advance and gives brief Casting Couch exit

interviews to the 4 departing contestants. In this episode, the 8 remaining actors perform scenes

from romantic dramas and comedies. Emphasizing direction and costume design, MovieStar also

reveals how actors deal with intimacy on movie sets.  Panel critiques performances and the

MovieStar audience votes for their favorite contestants after the show. 

 

Episode #7  (Skills Week): Episode commences in dramatic fashion with the Hostess requesting,

“the envelope, please…” Hostess announces 4 actors who advance to the Grand Finale and gives

brief Casting Couch exit interviews to the 4 departing contestants. In this episode, MovieStar

accelerates to a thrilling high-speed format, where the 4 remaining contestants perform scenes

that push the limits of their acting skills. This episode focuses on how makeup, wardrobe, and

lighting transform actors into characters with little or no resemblance to their true selves. Panel

critiques performances and the audience votes for the MovieStar winner after the show.  

 

Episode #8 (“Grand Finale”): Episode is a retrospective of the season, with montages of past

performances and other memorable MovieStar moments. 12 Finalists return to perform scenes

from different film genres, including drama, comedy, westerns, action, romance, and horror. In

this episode, MovieStar highlights post-production, demonstrating how editing and music enhance

and complete the filmmaking process. Grand Finale concludes with Hostess announcing

Hollywood’s next MovieStar!
